Lost at Swancon - sunglasses!
I seem to have mislaid my sunglasses at Swancon this year. They are prescription sunnies, so if a person with normal eyesight tries them on, they won't be able to see. This will tell you that they're mine. They were in a black case. If anyone finds/has found them, could you please let me know? Thanks. Sue.

Easter Friday – Hotel Alcohol Restrictions
Due to Perth’s liquor licensing restrictions, the Pan Pacific Hotel Lounge & Bar will only be able to serve alcohol to hotel guests (people staying in the hotel itself) on Easter Friday.
They will do this by cordoning off part of the lounge bar area, and only allowing hotel guests into that section. The other part of the lounge bar area will be open for all Swancon members, but will only be serving food, not alcohol.
Swancon members, who are not hotel guests, wishing to have a drink with a meal can do so in the Hotel Restaurant – Montereys, or at any other licensed restaurant in the area.
See you all soon!

Hunger Games Screening
Swancon & Genghiscon are running a screening for The Hunger Games, one of the most eagerly anticipated movies for 2012.
"In a not-too-distant future, North America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine, and war to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 12 districts. Each year two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part entertainment, part brutal intimidation of the subjugated districts, the televised games are broadcast throughout Panem. The 24 participants are forced to eliminate their competitors, literally, with all citizens required to watch. When 16-year-old Katniss' young sister, Prim, is selected as the mining district's female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and her male counterpart Peeta, will be pitted against bigger, stronger representatives who have trained for this their whole lives."
Based on the best selling young adult novel by Suzanne Collins, and with claims of staying faithful to the books, this movie has huge potential.
Join your fellow fans for the movie experience, and the guaranteed discussions, and debate afterwards.
This Friday, Belmont Reading Cinema, 6:15pm for a 6:30pm start.
Tickets are $15 full and $13 concession.
Please RSVP by 8pm tonight, via email to movies-2012 (at) swancon.com.au

Art Show Information
Could anyone who is planning on submitting artwork into the art show please contact me asap. I'd like to do a catalogue this year, which means I will be sticking to a hard cut off date of end of this month. I am willing to take payment at the con as long as I know what pieces people will be submitting so I can make note of what spacing I am going to need. But I will also require digital thumbprints if possible so that I can get the catalogue organised. So, submit artwork! Let me know about it! Send me thumbprints! Make me happy! Tell others to submit artwork! Rinse and repeat :)
Info regarding art show can be found here: https://2012.swancon.com.au/content/article/25

An unexpected diversion at Swancon
The Wellington Street Blood Bank asked me last night if I could come in on Easter Monday as they're opening specially that day to take whole blood and platelets. So I'll be going in at 9.30am that day...anybody want to keep me company or curious about the Trima process (taking just platelets) or even better, make a donation?
I feel a bit forlorn missing out on some of the convention but am heartened by the lives I will be saving...no excuse really - it's not very far away at all from the Blood Donor centre and there's unfortunately a staggering need for the products over Easter.
I'm also amused by the thought of a fannish invasion of the Wellington Street Blood Donor Centre.
See here http://www.donateblood.com.au/ for more information or ring 13 14 95 to make an appointment.

Swancon Room Bookings
Just a reminder that Swancon is now only 6 weeks away! Have you booked your room accommodation? Room accommodation should be booked by the end of February to ensure the correct room rates are applied as the hotel has said beyond that it will release rooms back into general allocation, so there is no guarantee that you will get your rooms at the Swancon rate if you book after that. Make sure you book your accommodation soon!

Art Show Call For Submissions
Doomcon are pleased to announce the Art Show will once again be running at Swancon! The Fan Art Show will run from Friday the 6th of April to 3pm Sunday the 8th of April, 2012. With Swancon now only a few months away, artists are encouraged to reserve space for their pieces by sending through a registration form or email. Payment for registrations must accompany the registration form. Judging of art work will be open from Friday through to the dinner break on Saturday evening, with Art show sales to take place after the lunch break on Sunday.
Works registered after 29th March 2012 might not find room at the Show. Although multiple entries are allowed, space is limited so we will accept entries on a first-come-first-served basis, and the organisers reserve the right to limit an artist to reasonable numbers of entries. There will be a separate children’s (Under 12) stream within the art show with its own judging.
Artists are asked to advise what their display requirements will be and whether their work will be sold. Please contact Linda at firstname.lastname@example.org to register your artwork. Actual submission of pieces will be advised closer to Swancon.
You must state on the entry form if the piece is an original or a reproduction. Reproductions or prints from digitally created works are allowed, though only one copy of any particular piece may be hung. All work must be the original work of the artist. All reproduction rights remain the property of the artist. Works judged by the organisers to be offensive or libelous will not be permitted in the show. If you are in doubt as to whether your work is acceptable, please contact the organisers in advance. Swancon reserves the right to refuse any entry for any reason it sees fit.
Artists are responsible for organising their own insurance. Whilst the best of care will be taken at all times, Swancon will not accept liability for damages to your art work.Financial Matters
The fee to enter the show is $5 per work except for Children’s Art or art entered for the purpose of fundraising, which will not be charged. These fees help to offset room, display, equipment and handling costs. Swancon will collect all sales revenue and distribute the proceeds to the artists by cash or cheque. Payments will be finalised no more than six weeks from the end of the convention. No commission will be charged by Swancon. If you mail your artwork in and it is not sold or collected from the show, you must provide payment to cover the costs of return postage and ensure packaging is reusable.Artists are responsible for their own insurance.Fundraising by art sales
Works entered in the show for the purpose of fundraising are exempt from entry fees. Unless otherwise specified, it is the artist's responsibility to distribute funds
It is also the artist's responsibility to label the work appropriately.

Self Defence at Swancon
In keeping with safe spaces at Swancon in the past, was wondering if ppl would be interest in a self defence panel at swancon this year given how late it runs at night. Wanting to share what i've learnt from gurus like Peyton Quinn, Tony Blauer and Marc Macyoung in the past. Nothing to do with martial arts, not about fighting but strategies/stuff to keep in mind to keep yourself from harms way - fight/flight, situational awareness, self defence mindset, safe distance, that sort of stuff.
